Après Gettysburg, Antietam, Pipe Creek, voici Chancellorsville, la grande victoire des Confédérés commandés par Robert E. Lee assisté de "Stonewall" Jackson qui malheureusement pour lui y laissa la vie.
Cette bataille eut lieu du 27 avril au 6 mai 1863, et fut marquée par l'opposition d'une armée de l'union deux fois supérieurs en nombre que l'armée des Confédérés. La bataille mettait aux prises l'armée du Potomac commandée par le major général Joseph Hooker, qui comptait près de 130 000 hommes, et l'armée de Virginie du Nord du général Lee et ses 60 000 hommes.
